Band websites

Website analysis

Eventually, we will be developing our groups' websites - in order to inform your planning and research into your final products you need to show that you are meeting the needs of your target audience. You can do this by analysing websites, Twitter and Facebook accounts of bands in a similar genre that your music video will be in.

You will pick the relevant areas and look at the different areas of the sites to discuss how they will contribute to your site.

When looking at analysing the website you have chosen in the same genre, you need to identify the 3 main areas of a website.

The 3 key areas are:

Purpose
This is the main point - the key to any good website is what its aim or objective. It is important that your website has a clear objective and purpose – this will help you identify your target audience and design. Look at a bands website in the same genre – what is the purpose of the site?

Design
You will need to discuss the colours, style, alignments, visual elements of the website you are looking at and link them to your bands site and explain why you have selected them. These are all areas that make up a website design and will be key to wether your website is successful or not. You have to always bear in mind the purpose of your website, the target audience and objectives, with all these in mind it is important to design your website to meet these needs. A good design highlights the important areas of a website, making it easy for visitors to find what they want quickly and without hassle.

Content
The content of YOUR site will be key to the success of the project. You must include relevant ‘content’ that provides the user with the information they require and this must be linked to the purpose of your site. Every page should have a goal and be specifically aimed with the target audience in mind, both with regards the terminology and the way in which it is presented. The format of the content should also be carefully considered, images and videos are a great way of presenting information. The images you used should be original where possible, however if it not possible to do this then the images should be manipulated and made to ‘fit in’ with your them and design.
